Gates of Hades Slot Review: Cluster Maths and the 10,000x Cap
In short — our verdict: 6.7/10 — Gates of Hades is a Pragmatic Play cluster-pays slot that returns a theoretical 96.52% and caps every win at 10,000x the stake. The cap binds in the base game and in free spins alike.
You get five connected symbols or nothing on this 6x6 grid, and the wild multipliers that decide a round stack in meters above the reels rather than on the symbols themselves. We played it in the official demo on and logged every round.

Gates of Hades Strengths and Weaknesses
Pros: What Works Well
- Pro: Publishing a separate figure for each buy is unusual candour; most studios print one number and leave it there.
- Pro: The multiplier rides in a meter over its own reel, so the total that will apply is readable before the cluster forms.
- Pro: Sticky meters behave exactly as the rules promise: with three spins still owed, our bought super round was already carrying 310x, 75x, 15x, 25x, 55x and 15x.
- Pro: Feature prices scale with the stake, so the cheaper shortcut costs $20.00 to anyone betting the $0.20 floor.
- Pro: The forfeit condition is spelled out rather than buried, and the client repeats it on two separate rules pages.
Cons: What Holds It Back
- Con: The super buy is the worst value on the screen: five times the price of the ordinary one for the thinnest edge of the three.
- Con: Two dimmer builds ship under the same artwork, and nothing in a lobby tells a player which of them loaded.
- Con: The studio's own product page describes a different game, and much of the published coverage inherited those errors wholesale.
- Con: Certification stops at a general statement, so the maths behind this release cannot be checked by a reader.
- Con: Round history is greyed out in demo mode, which removes the only audit trail a practice player would have.
- Con: A 1 in 42,194,093 shot at the ceiling makes the headline number closer to decoration than to a target.

What the Slot Actually Pays
The slot pays 150x the bet at the top of its ladder and 5x at the bottom, both at fifteen symbols or more. Five connected symbols is the floor, and the rules screen puts it plainly: blocks of at least five symbols joined horizontally or vertically pay, on a grid of six reels by six rows. A diagonal run of matching gems pays zero.

Eight symbols do the paying, with the wild paying separately. A crown heads the ladder at 150x for fifteen or more, the ring follows at 120x, the goblet at 60x, while the five gems run from 45x down to 5x at the same count. Winning symbols then tumble away. Fresh ones drop into the gaps, and it repeats for as long as new clusters keep forming, with no limit inside a single spin. That is where the larger base-game wins come from, because one drop rarely fills enough of the grid on its own. Our best round of the session needed three.
Only the highest win pays per combination. Separate blocks on the same screen do add together, though.
Where the Multipliers Land
Wilds carry the multiplier, then hand it upward rather than spending it where they land. A wild that drops can hold a value from a fixed set, and that value goes into a meter above its own reel. A cluster is then multiplied by the sum of the meters above the reels its symbols occupy. That is a narrower rule than most write-ups give.
The distinction matters. A 100x meter above reel one sits idle while a cluster pays on reels four, five and six.
Base-game values run 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 30x, 50x and 100x, with gaps between each step. In free spins the same ladder continues to 200x and 500x, and the meters stop clearing between spins.
What 28 Base Spins Looked Like
Six of 27 logged base rounds paid, a hit rate of 22.2%. We logged them at $2.00 a spin, with one round of the 28 going unrecorded. The best returned $36.00, built over three tumbles. A 10x meter sat on reel four and a 20x on reel five, so the cluster was multiplied by 30x, not by either figure alone. The other five wins were small, between $0.10 and $1.30. Across those 27 rounds we staked $54.00 and took back $39.30. A losing stretch, and an ordinary one at that sample size.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base spins logged: | 27 |
| Paying spins: | 6 |
| Hit rate: | 22.2% |
| Best base round: | $36.00, or 18x the stake |
| Highest single base-game meter: | 20x |
Gates of Hades Prints Three Returns
The client publishes three return figures rather than one. Page four of the rules gives 96.52% for ordinary play, 96.50% when you buy the free spins, and 96.47% when you buy the super version. The most expensive shortcut leaves you the thinnest edge.

So much for the honest part. The murkier half belongs to the casino. Game data catalogues list two further builds, 95.47% and 94.47%, chosen by the operator and running under identical artwork and an identical name. A 2.05-point spread is a lot to hide behind one logo. Your only defence is to open the rules screen at the casino you are actually using and read the figure printed there.
Gates of Hades Caps Wins at 10,000x
Ten thousand times the stake, and a round stops dead the moment it arrives. The wording appears twice, on rules page three and again on page six. A round that reaches the cap ends immediately. The win is paid up to the limit, and anything still owed is forfeited. A free-spins round with eight spins left simply loses them.
Third-party game data puts the chance of getting there at 1 in 42,194,093.
We went looking for a recorded player hit and came up short. The most-viewed clip claiming the maximum went up around , a day before the game came out. That makes it a press build, not a player's session. Two further clips promising the first maximum win are now dead links.
Buying in: 100x or 500x
Buying in costs 100x the total bet for the free spins and 500x for the super version, priced in stake multiples rather than the cash figure the screen shows. Free spins cost 100x the total bet, the super version 500x. At our $2.00 stake they read $200.00 and $1,000.00; at the $0.20 floor the same buttons would read $20.00 and $100.00.

Each purchase buys a variable number of spins. The rules guarantee three to six scatters on the triggering spin, and the count follows from that, so a bought round can run 10, 12, 15 or 20 spins. All three of ours landed on three scatters, paying ten apiece.
You set the stake and the currency. That part is the casino's business, not the game's. Which venues carry this title, and what their terms look like, is the subject of our where to play page.
Is This Slot Medium or High?
The game calls itself medium. A badge reading medium volatility sits on the intro screen and again above rules page four, above the line that medium volatility games pay out steadily with a range of pays from low to very high.
Every catalogue we checked calls it high, and several put it at the ceiling of their own scale. Both readings are defensible. The studio publishes no numeric volatility rating for this title, so the catalogues offer an opinion and the badge offers a label. We report both and let the disagreement stand, because averaging two incompatible claims would invent a third.
Our own session settles little here, and we should say so: 28 base spins measure variance poorly.
Where Gates of Hades Falls Short
The documentation is the weak point, and it is the studio's own. The public page for this game on the provider's site describes a different one. It gives a fixed free-spin count, a base-game multiplier range the client ignores, and a paying combination formed anywhere on the screen rather than in connected blocks. The same paragraph even gives two different scatter thresholds. Reviewers copied those figures wholesale, which is why so much coverage of this release repeats the same four errors. The mistake is old enough now that correcting it means contradicting the studio's own website.
Certification is the other gap. The studio names its testing laboratories in general terms, and a general statement falls well short of a certificate. Certificate numbers, laboratory names and audit dates are all missing for this release. Those bodies keep their per-title records private, so a reader who wants to confirm the maths is stranded.
Demo mode also locks the round history, a small thing that stops a player checking their own practice sessions.
We would not recommend the Super Free Spins buy. It costs five times the ordinary one and carries the lowest published return of the three modes, 96.47%. All it guarantees is a 10x floor on wild values, and an ordinary bought round reaches that often enough by itself.

What Else Do Readers Ask?
The questions below come from what the in-game rules screen answers and what it quietly leaves out. Every figure was read off the client during our session of rather than copied from a catalogue.
How do we test a slot like this one?
Testing starts in the official demo. We read all seven rules pages, log every round at a fixed stake, then buy each feature once and record the return.
Does the demo need registration?
No, the official launcher opens without an account and credits 100,000 in play money, at a default stake of $2.00.
Can the multiplier meters be cleared mid-round?
Meters clear after every base-game spin once tumbling stops. Inside free spins they hold their values until the round ends.
Where is the return figure shown in the client?
Return figures sit on page four of the in-game rules, reached through the information button at the bottom left of the screen.
Is there an ante bet or double chance?
No ante bet exists here. All seven rules pages and the settings menu were checked on , and every one came back clear.
How much does the feature cost at minimum stake?
Free spins cost $20.00 and the super version $100.00 at the $0.20 minimum, since both buys are priced at 100x and 500x the bet.
